WHY: “Consumers of Culture” was birthed out of a desire to share in an organic cultural experience. America is a melting pot of immigrants. There is a large sub culture of first generation Americans shaping the face of America each and every day with stories to share. This story we believe is one of duality, which is heavily influenced by Americana yet rooted in the culture of their parents’ home country. This duality has brought great things to America. For example who doesn’t love a pizza or a hot dog and there seems to be a new fusion restaurant opening in a metropolitan city every month. We want to take certain aspects of this duality and share our cultural experiences with others. This is why we want to bring “Consumers of Culture” to event form and share in fashion, music, and culture in one space.
WHAT: “Consumers of Culture Marketplace” is a culminating social event bringing together all the participants of the web series “Consumer of Culture” into one space. This event is to allow young professionals, family, friends, and supporters of the individuals we interviewed to engage with each other in a creative atmosphere. The main purpose of the event is to share and celebrate a cultural experience.
“Consumers of Culture” is based on the idea that we are all connected as social participants in a global economy. In a growing digital world people are able to become more aware, educated, savvy and ambitious about activities around the globe. People naturally want to share in these experiences with like-minded intelligent individuals. This in essence allows us all to become consumers of culture as we take cues from each new cultural experience and share with our peer group.
