Detroit Organizations Ask Community to Ring the Bell and Fight For Detroit Youth
(October 12, 2015 -DETROIT, MI) On Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 11:00am, the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program (DBG) and HOMIES DETROIT (HOmD) invite the community to the Downtown Boxing Gym (6445 E. Vernor Highway, Detroit, MI 48207) for the HOMIES DETROIT ROUND TWO fundraiser. Guests will enjoy an afternoon of health and wellness and after attendees achieve an appropriate level of zen they will be treated to local art, music and food.
HOmD ROUND TWO will feature eight different yoga and wellness workshops lead by local experts and a slow-flow yoga program lead by internationally renowned yoga instructors Caren Paskel of Yoga Shelter and Michael McCarthy of Blue Yoga. Local vendors will provide a selection of food, drinks and merchandise during the event.
DBG Founder and Program Director Carlo “Coach Khali” Sweeney started the organization in 2007 as a platform to encourage education and keep kids safe. 100% of the students who have finished the DBG Youth Program have graduated form high school.
"This is such a new and different fundraiser for us," said Carolyn Geck, DBG's Director of Development. "Homies Detroit is a terrific partner for this event, and we are thrilled to host them in our new facility."
Activities will include:
- Health & Wellness Workshops Session A: 12:00 pm(Noon) - 12:30 pm
- Health & Wellness Workshops Session B: 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm
- Slow Flow Yoga Session: 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
- Live Music, Food and Fun: 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Corporate sponsors for Homies Detroit Round Two include: Emagine Entertainment, Athleta, and Irene's Myomassology Institute. Health & Wellness workshops will be provided by: Blue Yoga, Center For Yoga, Yoga Shelter, Citizen Yoga and Amanda Gyuran Wellness. Music for the evening will be provided by local artists Mekato and Golf Clap. Art and decoration for the evening will be done by Factory Du Monde and the food for the afternoon will be provided by a catering wing of Cass Community Social Services.

Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program (DBG) is a free after school educational resource for Detroit Youth. The nonprofit develops good citizenship in urban youth through a demanding boxing program in addition to strong academic support and a connection to the community through voluntary service.
