If you are not already familiar, DC clothing brand Riveriswild has been consistently delivering a unique perspective on streetwear with their monthly capsules. To properly understand the aesthetic of the brand, you must understand where the individuals behind it come from. The creations are the workings of their Creative Director, a young man of Nigerian descent. The execution of this West African influence, though, is not so overt. His collections are a playful exploration of his culture, and an innovative blend of streetwear and heritage. The more interesting thing though is, how they market and release their material. It's more of a free-flowing process rather than held by the steadfast "rules of the industry". As I mentioned before, their capsules are monthly and contain a few items as opposed to a seasonal release of an entire collection which is rather ingenious if you ask me. This manuever allows them to keep a better handle on inventory and really dictate to the consumer how their brand is perceived.
In this edition, which is only part one of Capsule 005, Anansi Dreams is a collection that is out for mischief, playful rebellion, and fantasy. Inspired by West African summer nights and the countless stories told and passed from generation to generation, Anansi Dreams is the perfect ode. With the Spider shorts and Venom Tee, the West African god of stories is properly honored in this instant favorite of a capsule.
