There is an honesty to Folk music, a rawness in its simplicity that often gets lost in the over production of its more established genre brethren. It is what made artist like Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) stick out so much within the mainstream when he made For Emma, Forever Ago from a log cabin in Wisconsin.
Moreover, that same unadulterated honesty will make Alabama folk singer Jenny Marie Keris a sound you will want to hear more of. Combining personal experiences with a poetic flare and a soulful guitar, Jenny has literally put her everything in her music, using it in an almost therapeutic endeavor. Her smoky voice wisps throughout the crisp guitar strums, interplaying meaningful pauses between stanzas to create such a delightfully haunting ambiance that it keeps you enthralled even after the last note is sung. It is this staying power along with the down to earth personality found in her music that makes her talents so special.
At the time of this writing, Jenny is working on her debut EP, The Distance Between Us, a project that she plans to release by June of next year. Being a true independent artist, she has placed all of her time, effort and more importantly soul into bringing her gift to as many people as she can. This endeavor can be helped by participating in her fundraising effort found here. Take a moment to listen to the title track and become an instant fan of her talent.
