A new song hit my email box a few days ago from the elusive art collective known only as The Black Opera. For those who do not know, TBO is hip-hop’s first and only performing arts group hiding their identities for the sake of making what they love, art. Today’s piece is of the audio variety. "90z Baby" comes way of their frequent collaborator, producer Tall Black Guy and features emcees Ro Spit, Jamall Bufford, Magestik Legend and Scolla, each of whom bring their “A game” to the track. As you delve into it, you see as the crew, depending on which side of the fence you fall on, lament on the disconnect between this generation and the one before it. Nostalgia becomes apparent if you can remember living through the 90’s and it’s very strange times. Those of us that went through the whole thing will undeniably feel this record’s vibe and the pieces of our childhood that they drop. Anyone remember when FUBU was hot and LA Lights? Tall Black Guy, as has become normalcy, knocks the instrumental out of the park bringing the summertime feel that begs to be played with the windows down or at the many cookouts to come this summer.
Take a listen to the track below and download it for your next party.
